When people think of an event planner, they often picture logistics, timelines and run sheets. While these are all essential ingredients of a successful event, sometimes our role is something entirely different.
For the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Trust Gala at Brisbane City Hall, Event Society was engaged as the Creative Director and Event Designer, entrusted with one important responsibility: bringing the Chandeliers & Champagne vision to life.
Held within the iconic Main Auditorium of Brisbane City Hall, the annual gala brings together Brisbane’s business leaders, philanthropists and community champions for one of the city’s most prestigious fundraising evenings in support of local charities.
Our role wasn’t to plan every operational element of the evening. Instead, we were responsible for creating the visual story guests would experience from the moment they arrived.
As an event design and event styling specialist, this is where Event Society thrives.
The concept centred around timeless elegance, celebrating the grandeur of City Hall while elevating it with contemporary styling. Rather than competing with the venue’s magnificent architecture, we allowed it to become part of the design itself.
Suspended crystal chandeliers floated dramatically above the ballroom, creating layers of light that drew guests’ eyes upward and transformed the vast ceiling into an immersive installation. White draping softened the scale of the space, while crystal candelabras, candlelight and refined floral accents added warmth and intimacy throughout the room.
Every design decision was intentional.
Lighting became architecture.
Crystal became texture.
Negative space became just as important as the décor itself.
The result was an environment that felt luxurious without feeling over styled, a sophisticated backdrop worthy of Brisbane’s premier charity gala.
This project also highlights an important distinction between event planning and event production. While planning ensures an event runs smoothly, creative direction shapes how an event is remembered. It’s the emotional response guests have when they first walk through the doors, the atmosphere they feel during dinner, and the moments they capture and share long after the evening has ended.
