Truth talk : this is hard.
If it wasn’t hard before, as we re-surface from I’ve-lost-count-of-how-manylockdowns we’ve-had, it certainly is now.
Our industry is on its knees. Nearly 18 months of restrictions and snap lock downs means that consumer confidence to book any kind of anything is at an all-time low. Most of our time is spent re-quoting and re-imagining events that have been postponed one, two, three times if not cancelled completely. Our airports and hotels are near empty. Our entire industry is crawling to the end of the year and the events that Christmas time brings.
For me personally, this has been the hardest thing I’ve ever been through and I know I’m not alone. I am one of many, maybe thousands in the Southeast Queensland events industry who are all exactly the same.
There doesn’t seem to be much cause for celebration, which is what we do best.
Or is there?
And this is where my real struggle begins.
Because I wander through the world and my eyes are blessed to see beauty like the images I’ve included here that I snapped on my iPhone.
Because beauty like this pulls me out of my tangled mind and into my body. It gives me space to look for that shiny proverbial silver gleaming behind the covid cloud. There must be something I can cling to.
And my mum taught me that when you seek, you will find.
So, mid-lock down with me wondering when WILL THIS EVER END…this interview with Sunny Jacobs made its way to my inbox care of my friend, Guy Lawrence.
Sunny was convicted of a murder she didn’t commit and received a death sentence. She ended up serving 17 years, 5 of those in solitary confinement. I won’t give away the story, but there is so much more to it than this. Sunny suffered loss after devastating loss and still chose to believe in ‘hope over hopelessness’.
This was the dose of perspective I needed, and it showed up at exactly the time I needed it. HOPE OVER HOPELESSNESS was my mantra that day and has been every day since.
I choose HOPE.
If you are receiving this and have read this far, it’s just possible that you feel the same way and maybe, just maybe, this story will bring you hope too.
If you are one of a client who is persevering with us and booking your events now and over the next few months – we are so very very grateful to you.
